Irish Army of Liberation

Client: Company of Military Historians
Country: USA

This uniform plate captures the mélange of attire worn by the Fenian raiders that invaded Canada in 1866. Made up mainly of Irish veterans of the American Civil War, former Union and Confederate soldiers suddenly found themselves side by side fighting for the same cause. Intensive research of historic source material formed the basis for this reconstruction, which was published as part of the “Military Uniforms in America” series by the Company of Military Historians.
