“The Diagram of Universal Insignificance” is not only Mueller’s largest drawing so far, but also an ambitious experiment — the artist combines fundamental laws of physics with philosophical theory in a highly intriguing way that is both visually and intellectually stimulating. The clear structure of the overall composition suggests that an order of sorts is to be found in the chaos of life. It harkens back to the tradition of the early German philosopher Jacob Boehme — adding scientific findings as well as Mueller’s personal views of life and is presented in meticulous line-work. As an observer one cannot help but be drawn into its details, eagerly trying to decipher its many meanings, gently losing one’s self in thought and reflection.
