Based on historical sources this uniform plate recreates the antebellum uniform of the Palmetto Riflemen; a militia unit from Charleston, S.C., which was made up mainly of German immigrants. Mueller is an avid student of history and particularly interested in historical uniforms and collaborated with noted historian and author Ron Field on researching and reconstructing this uniform. As no visual records of the uniform are known to exist, the reconstruction relayed on meticulous detective work — carefully piecing together historic accounts and source material. The result was published as part of the Company of Military Historians’ “Military Uniforms in America” series.
